One type is made by processing ordinary flat glass or float glass under specific technological conditions through quenching or air-cooled quenching methods. Another type is made by processing ordinary flat glass or float glass through ion exchange methods, changing the surface composition of the glass to form a compressive stress layer on the surface of the glass.
Tempered glass features high impact strength (4 to 5 times higher than that of ordinary flat glass), large flexural strength (5 times higher than that of ordinary flat glass), good thermal stability, as well as smoothness, transparency, and other characteristics. When subjected to extremely strong impact damage, the fragments are in the form of scattered fine particles without sharp edges or corners, thus it belongs to the category of glass.
In fact, tempered glass has another drawback, which is optical distortion. During the tempering process, the glass is subjected to a temperature of around 720 degrees. The rapid cooling wind pressure for 3.2 millimeters is 12,800 Pascals, and for 4 millimeters, it is 7,000 to 8,000 Pascals. When the glass is already softening, if it is suddenly subjected to such wind pressure in just 3 seconds, wind spots will appear on the surface of the glass At the same time, there will be unevenness on the surface of the glass, and the severity depends on the quality of the equipment. That's why tempered glass cannot be used as a mirror surface.
Tempered glass manufacturers' products are classified by shape
Tempered glass is classified into flat tempered glass and curved tempered glass based on its shape. The thicknesses of flat tempered glass include 3.4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, and 19mm. The thicknesses of curved tempered glass are also available in eight types: 3.4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, and 19mm. However, curved surface (i.e., curved tempered) tempered glass has an arc limit for each thickness. That is, what is commonly referred to as R, where R is the radius. Tempered glass is classified by its appearance into: flat tempered and curved tempered.
